BEATRICE THE BUTTERFLY, Rising Stars Acting Night
Friday, May 5th at 7pm
Join us as our Rising Stars take the stage in this one-act comedy. Beatrice is a butterfly with a clipped wing. Seeking social acceptance, her brother Bill deserts her as they walk to school to hang out with the Cool Bees, the hippest bunch of insects this side of Mrs. Arden's Garden. As she attempts to fly to school alone, she ends up lost and finds a magical world where she meets a ladybug with no spots, a millipede with two legs, a talking whale, a surfing turtle and a bevy of other exciting creatures! As they all help Beatrice find her way back home, her friends help her to realize that being different means you're just like everybody else!
LEAVES, Teen Stars Acting Night
Saturday, May 13th at 3pm & 7pm
Depression. Anxiety. Confusion. Guilt. These are just some of the powerful feelings lurking beneath the understated dialogue in this play about a family in crisis. The play begins with the Murdoch clan--parents David and Phyllis, and daughters Poppy and Clover--nervously awaiting the arrival of a third daughter, Lori, who is heading home from college. Everyone is ready to explode at the drop of the proverbial hat. Forced laughter and stiff upper lips abound until Lori walks through the door. Before long, she is reuniting, painfully, with her kid sisters, her emotionally repressed Dad, and--most importantly--her Mom, who has scenes that will break your heart. What and who is to blame for Lori's breakdown? Her return home marks but the first tentative step on the long, rutted road to recovery--but what a crucial step it is.
